Abstract

Anemia in teenage girls is a nutritional problem in Indonesia. Riskesdas 2013 data shows that 1 out of 5 Indonesian youth suffers from anemia. Adolescent girls need special attention because their growth is the basis for the quality of intergenerational health. SMPIT LHI is a boarding-based school that has the opportunity to solve health problems totally through the roles of schools, hostels, and parents. The anemia prevention program in this school is incidental and still not optimal. Data from UKS SMPIT LHI in 2022 showed 18 out of 120 students refused to take iron tablets, and 22 out of 120 students experienced 5L symptoms. The lack of success of the implemented program is likely related to the lack of knowledge of female students regarding anemia. Based on this background, the solution for this community service activity is to form an Anemia Ambassador Team from female student representatives, so that prevention and early detection of anemia can be carried out through peer education programs. The Anemia Ambassador Team needs to be equipped with knowledge related to anemia and the skills to provide education to peers. The formation of this team is expected to play an effective role in the prevention and control of anemia in the school. The Anemia Ambassador Team consists of 18 students representing 6 classes (2 grade 7, 2 grade 8, and 2 grade 9). In this program, the team received education using modules and flipcharts with material on the prevention and treatment of anemia. The team received questionnaires before and after the education, to measure its effectiveness. The results of the analysis showed that education proved to be effective (p=0.00). The Anemia Ambassadors Team is committed to providing education to peers as a follow-up to this activity.
